From Huntly Town Square head north up Castle Street and left at the War Memorial onto West Park Street. Follow this road to the end and take a left followed by an immediate right along a path, which starts off as a rough track but turns into a paved surface. Follow this until the end and enter the pavement at Deveron Road. Turn right and keep right until reaching a bridge crossing the River Deveron.

After crossing the bridge over the River Deveron turn right onto the dirt walkway beside the Portsoy road (B9022) and continue along this for 800m. Immediately before the Castle Hotel turn off, cross the road and go up the track marked ‘footpath to the Bin’.

Just before reaching the house, take a left up a small footpath and follow this uphill until arriving at a junction, with a map panel of the woodland. Take the left-hand path which circles the hill, surrounded by some of the oldest trees in the woodland.

Take the next track on the left heading down past ‘The White Wood’ - a community-made project made up of a thousand native trees and wildflowers, all displaying an element of white, as a representation of peace. Once reaching the T junction take a right following the blue markers until reaching the next junction where a right is taken downhill, then another right at the gate onto a well established forest track.

Follow the track for 500m before turning right through a wooden gate. Follow track uphill, ignoring the turn to the right. Once the elevation starts to level, there is a right turn, which will take you back to the map board at the entrance to the forest. Follow same route back to the B9022.

Cross the B9022 and instead of heading back the way you came, head up the driveway to the Castle Hotel. After 1km you will reach the Castle Hotel. Enter the grounds of the hotel and head down the beautiful walkway leading to a bridge taking you over the River Deveron and back to Huntly.

Follow the road around to the left, circling the ruins of Huntly Castle and head up the tree-lined road past The Gordon Schools keeping straight until returning to Huntly Square.
