Wind's Eye
HDT is today launching a community consultation process on a genuinely transformational opportunity for Huntly and District. The proposal is to buy via Forestry and Land Scotland’s Community Asset Transfer Scheme (CATS) Wind’s Eye, the 168-hectare (415 acre) section of Gartly Forest (GF) right next to our Greenmyres venue. This would provide us with a site for delivering all kinds of additional benefits from our adjacent Greenmyres venue (walking and cycling trails, holiday accommodation enhanced habitat for wildlife, more biodiverse forestry, and more. It would also give us a site for development of 3 new community wind turbines next to the existing eight turbine Dummuies/Greenmyres cluster. These would be larger than the existing ones and deliver significant investment funds for Huntly and District for decades to come. This would enable, for example, further town centre regeneration, transport improvements, economic development, sports facilities and property insulation. The income from our one 500kW turbine at Greenmyres has allowed us develop projects like Number 30. Just imagine what three larger ones could mean for Huntly and District.
