Mini Holland

We are excited to have launched the Mini Holland Huntly Commonplace page. Here, you can give your views on how to improve walking and cycling options in and around Huntly and make our town a greener, healthier, more attractive place.

Introduction

Huntly is a great place to live, work and visit and surrounded by great countryside. However, getting around our small, compact town and accessing the surrounding area on foot and by bike can feel surprisingly unsafe and daunting. This is especially true if you are new or returning to cycling, elderly or are encouraging your children to cycle to school or their activities. As a result, we can all miss out on many of the health, learning, environmental and financial benefits taken for granted in so many places across the world, e.g. The Netherlands, where towns are designed to make it is easier to walk and cycle. Many of these are also greener and more attractive as public space is dedicated to planting and people are prioritised over vehicles.

Tell us what you think?

Mini Holland Huntly wants to hear if and how you think we could make this happen in Huntly. The initial focus of the project is on how we could improve journeys to school and the town centre, but please feel free to comment on any travel-related issues/opportunities you have identified in the project area. All the information we receive will feed into plans which we will develop with our partners over spring 2022.

Now spread the word...

As the ways we get around affects all of us, we want everyone in Huntly to get involved. So, please, after you’ve left your own comments, ask your friends and neighbours to have their say too. “The world is ruled by those who turn up” goes the saying, so your/their involvement is really important!

Mini Holland Huntly is an initiative of the Huntly Travel Hub, which is part of Huntly Development Trust. The project is supported by Aberdeenshire Council and the Sustrans Scotland Places for Everyone fund. Click here or any of the above links to participate.
